DeSoto Chapter Accomplishments and Activities

  • Endowed the DESOTO PARISH CHAPTER LSU ALUMNI PROFESSORSHIP to Dr. Mark Hafner, College of Biological Sciences and Curator of the NATURAL SCIENCES MUSEUM IN Foster Hall ($75,000)
  • Awarded 35 local chapter scholarship awards ($500 -$1000each)
  • Sponsored 11 DESOTO GOLF CLASSIC WEEKENDS ( now called the LSU Alumni Association’s Dr. Don Taylor Golf Classic). 4 chapter cookouts, and yearly TV away game view ins
  • Provide a memorial brick for deceased alumni at the LOD COOK ALUMNI CENTER
  • Participate in college recruiting sessions with LSU’s area recruiter at parish and high school College and Career Days
  • Four members acknowledged with the LSUAA Chapter Leadership Awards
  • Have established 10 DESOTO PARISH LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS (value of $20,000 each which provides a 4 year academic scholarship for $1000 per year)
  • Have sent representatives to 13 of the last 15 LSUAA Leadership Workshops
  • Hosted events with Coaches Les Miles, D.J. McCarthy, Gary Gibbs, Josh Henson, Mack Butler, Verge Ausberry, and Steve Ensminger. Jim Hawthorne, “The Voice of the Tigers”,Tommy Casanova, Todd Walker
  • Sponsor of the Jack and Priscilla Andoine Museum on the campus of LSU (one of only 4 chapters to do so) Founding member of the museum’s VIP PROGRAM
  • Sponsor annual Banquet, Alumnus of the Year Award, and the Lodwrick Monroe Cook Award
  • Sponsor a room in the LOD AND CAROL COOK HOTEL AND CONFERENCE CENTER on the campus of LSU
  • Winner of the 2007 J.D. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AWARD for “Significant contributions to the Economic and Civic Life of DeSoto Parish”
  • Annual sponsor of the Andoine Museum display “Honoring the Memory of All Loyal Tigers”
  • Fully Funded two Dr. Donald R. Taylor Top 100 Scholarships and are currently working with chapter members to fund additional Top 100 as memorial scholarships in education
  • Have several named scholarships in memorial to deceased chapter members
