Announcing The Tom and Barbara Gregory Top 100 Scholarship
The LSU Alumni Association on the campus of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana is pleased to announce the establishment of the TOM AND BARBARA GREGORY TOP100 SCHOLARSHIP. The Top 100 Scholarship Program was established to attract the best and brightest of scholars to LSU. It is an investment in the future of education, LSU and the state of Louisiana that will be awarded as long as there is a great university that bears the name of LSU. The Top 100 is one of the most prestigious scholarships that LSU offers. It is awarded on a very competitive academic basis, with ACT scores of 32 needed for considered for the scholarship. The Gregory Top 100 Scholarship will be awarded to scholars who seek to follow their professional calling in the field of education by seeking a degree at LSU. This outstanding scholarship is dedicated to the memory of two great members of DeSoto Parish community, Tom and Barbara Gregory. The Gregory family moved to Mansfield around 1959 and became involved in all aspects of Mansfield's civic, business, and educational life. Tom was a well respected business leader who was associated with Lowrey Motor Company for over 35 years. Barbara was a dedicated educator who taught at Stanley High School for over 30 years. Tom passed away in 2000 and Barbara passed away this year, 2010. Tom and Barbara were huge LSU fans and supporters of the efforts of LSU in DeSoto Parish. This scholarship is fully endowed by the generous gift to the LSU Alumni Association by their son, Dr. John Gregory, an orthopedic surgeon in Texarkana, Texas. Dr. Gregory is an active member and contributor to the DeSoto Parish Chapter of the LSU Alumni Association, the Tiger Athletic Foundation, the LSU Alumni Association, and many of his medical professional organizations. John was the first recepient of the LODWRICK MONROE COOK AWARD, presented by the DeSoto Chapter. Dr. Gregory has been a sponsor of every event presented by the DeSoto Chapter. All in DeSoto Parish can be genuinely proud and honored by this scholarship and the excellent people whose lives and contributions are memorialized by its establishment. As the alma mater of Louisiana State University concludes with the words, "FOREVER LSU", so is our gratitude to Tom and Barbara Gregory.
